ACT Older Persons Assembly –Consultations
Members of the public are invited to attend a community consultation forum to provide input into the second ACT Older Persons Assembly that will be held on 1 October 2014.

By popular demand, the four forums held in June are being supplemented with an additional forum in the Tuggeranong area:

1.00pm to 3.00pm
Tuggeranong Seniors Centre
101 Cowlishaw Street (on the bend)
Greenway

To RSVP call 6205 0303 during business hours. You do not need to be a Tuggeranong resident to attend.

Light refreshments will be provided.

Members are invited to attend a multicultural community consultation forum to help shape the second ACT Older Persons Assembly to be held on 1 October 2014. The theme of this year’s Assembly is ‘Canberra Age-friendly City’.  Three key areas of focus will be:

1. What is an age-friendly city?

2. How can we help people to age within a healthy lifestyle?

3. How can we encourage and support greater social inclusion for older ACT residents?

The ACT Government is running Community Education sessions about Advance Care Planning.  These education sessions will cover:

What is Advance Care Planning?

Having the Conversation with family and friends

Completing the Enduring Power of Attorney and Advance Care Plan documents.

Feed-back from Members attending an earlier session is that it is well worth it.

Respecting Patient Choices

The ACT Government’s Respecting Patient Choices Program is sponsoring a series of “play’s” (they are free to attend to the community) on the 19th and 21st of May.  The Play’s are designed to facilitate community conversation about death, grief and living.  Four Funerals in one day is based on real people’s stories and is an entertaining and inspiring performance.

There is a small but enthusiastic group of regular attendees at the Club’s carpet bowls session each week that are looking for new players.  No previous experience necessary.  Why not give it a try; it is a relaxing and gentle form of exercise with great company.
