Fortnightly News Update 1/2/2013
Welcome back to the Club in 2013. Most of the regular club activities are restarting. The U3A activities start over the next two weeks. Why not try a new activity this year.
Car Parking
And as happens each year at this time there will be pressure on the available car parking spaces, in part due to opportunistic local workers making use of the Club’s empty car park over the Christmas/January break and also with an influx of new members for U3A activities.
The Management Committee will regularly patrol the car park, but is also looking for members who are prepared to regularly assist with surveillance of the car park. It would mean walking through the car park once a month and possibly issuing notices. Can you assist?
Activities
There are many activities run in the Club that depend on cooperation between the different groups. It behoves all of us to be aware of other groups and not to interfere with their activities. This sometimes means taking the long way around to the kitchen rather than cutting through the dance group. This is of course just being courteous but it may also avoid injury, for example, inadvertently wandering into the table tennis group during play can be dangerous.
Bridge Lessons
Beginner Bridge lessons commence in February on Thursday (10.00-12.00 midday) or Friday (2.00 – 4.00 pm) as convenient. Please contact Margaret Kennedy on 6292 9636.
To all those gardeners out there…
The Club is keen to improve the gardens surrounding the Club and is seeking assistance from members to help design and/or implement drought hardy, low water usage and low maintenance gardens. This is an opportunity to join a group, led by Facilities Committee Chair Sue Allen, to grow native shrubs and possibly herbs and greens for your own use.
We need people with expertise in planning and design of low water usage and low maintenance gardens to help get us started. If you are interested please leave your name and contact number with Polly and we will get back to you.
Non-Club Activities of Interest to Members

Spiral meets every Thursday at St. James Uniting Church in Curtin from 10.00 am till midday. Morning tea is served. The first guest speaker for 2013 will be David Kilby (ABC radio) on February 7. Carillon Twilight Recital Feb 14
There will be a Carillion Twilight Recital on Friday 14 February, 7-8 pm (Valentine’s Day). You could take a picnic and it is such a relaxing, lovely way to spend the evening. Joan Chia will be playing that night and has chosen a light and romantic program.
