Access to the Club

The usual access point to the Club has been moved to the northern part of Corinna Street. Transport Canberra have upgraded the access point with bitumen to cross both gutters. Transport Canberra neglected to let us know that the road adjacent to the Club was being upgraded. When it became clear to them that we needed access to the Club they agreed to put in the temporary access point. The road will be closed for about 9 weeks.

Mahjong & Scrabble

Two more activites have resumed,

Mahjong – Wednesday 1.00 pm to 3.30 pm

Scrabble – Monday 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm

New members and beginners are welcome.

Check In CBR App

The Check In CBR app is a contactless, secure and convenient way for members to sign into the Woden Seniors Club.

The app helps protect the community by assisting with faster contact tracing. The app enables individuals to check-in to venues and have this data stored securely with ACT Health in the event contact tracing is needed due to a confirmed case of COVID-19 in the community.

Use of the app will help the ACT Health contact tracing team quickly identify and assist anyone who may have been exposed to COVID-19.

During the COVID-19 public health emergency non-essential businesses and undertakings are required by law to ask for the first name and phone number of people who attend their venue. Use of this app enables businesses to comply with these laws.

Download the App

5 step process to download and use the app:

(Internet connection and compatible phone or tablet device required)

  1. Download the Check In CBR App from Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.
  2. Register your details (required for the first time only).
  3. At participating venues, open the app, select ‘Check In Now’ and hover your smartphone over the displayed QR code.
  4. Add in any additional people – those who are with you without their own device or app.
  5. When the check-in is complete, show venue staff the app successful check in screen.

Free one-on-one digital learning sessions for senior

Woden Seniors is no longer offering iPad or computer classes, however the Council on the Ageing (COTA) ACT has recently received funding to fill this gap.

The ACT Government has funded COTA ACT to offer free one-on-one digital learning sessions to seniors. The Seniors Pop-up Technology Hub will be a place where seniors can come and ask questions in a relaxed way and learn about how to get online and become confident with using new technology. The learning sessions are designed to assist seniors with staying in touch with their community, family and friends, such as through email, social media, and video calls eg Zoom or Facetime, and be a resource for finding information online.

If you would like to know more about the free computer literacy workshops run by COTA ACT, call the COTA ACT office on 6282 3777 or email Events

Tax help for seniors

Council on the Ageing (COTA) ACT has a Tax Help Volunteer again this year.

You can book an appointment for Tuesday, from 10.00am or any Wednesday afternoon at the COTA ACT office in Wisdom Street, Hughes on 6282 3777.

Tax Help is a free and confidential service to help people on a low income (around $60,000 or less) with simple tax affairs to complete their tax return online with myTax. It is available from July to October.

Volunteers can help you lodge your tax return or amend online or claim a refund of franking credits.

All groups must include each person’s full name and telephone number in the activity book to enable contact tracing in the event that there is a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19. Please bring the correct money for each activity to minimise handling of cash.

The Management Committee will continuously review activities and wellbeing over the coming months to ensure that we reduce the risk of infection by COVID-19.
