Christmas Lunch – Monday 9 December, 12:00 for 12:30pm
 
The Special Events sub-Committee is hosting a 2 course traditional Christmas lunch in the Club on Monday 9 December.  Simon and Connie from the Red Hill Lookout Café are catering.  
 
Main course will be glazed smoked ham, turkey breast stuffed with pistachio nuts, maple glazed roast pumpkin and snow peas followed by desert of either plum pudding with brandy custard and cream or pavlova with summer fruits and cream.  Complementary wine will be provided.
 
Our patron, his Excellency, Michael Bryce will be attending and the Chordsmen will sing a few tunes.  Cost is $35, please book and pay by Monday 2 December.
 
Wellbeing Health Seminar – Thursday 12 Dec, 9.30 – 12noon
 
This, the Summer Season session, continues the series of free seasonal (quarterly) seminars provided by Dr Haisong Wang of the Capital Health Centre of Traditional Chinese Medicine.  This seminar will cover the illnesses and maladies that occur during summer, the treatments and natural procedures, including nutrition, to alleviate those illnesses and explores physical movements and gentle exercises, to develop a more responsive body in order to maintain good health.
 
Dr Haisong will also have a visiting Chinese Health expert and together they will tell us of the latest trends in Health maintenance and take us through the Tai Chi movements.

At 9.30am till 12 noon
 
Requirements – comfortable clothing and shoes, notepad and pencil for note taking (optional)
 
Attendees – anyone with an interest in their health …seniors, carers, friends, relatives….. (all welcome)
 
The session will include a tea/coffee break for which a gold coin donation would be appreciated to help defray costs.
Books, Books, Books for Sale!
 
Margaret Bourke, Kay Lancaster and Gillian Edwards have been busy sorting books and keeping our library nice and tidy.
 
They have also renewed all the books for sale on the shelves in the verandah; these are offered to members for a modest contribution … $1 for small books and $2 for large books.
 
All previous stock has been removed.  Please help yourself and pay Polly.
 
Club Closing Time for Christmas & New Year period
 
The Club will be closed for the Christmas and New Year period from 4pm Friday 20 December 2013, re-opening at 9am on Monday 13 January 2014.  Activity groups can still access the club premises during this period to undertake their regular activities; Activity Group Leaders should contact Polly to make arrangements before 4pm Friday 20 December.

Woden Valley Festival ‘Carnival’
It was a good day out at the Carnival on Saturday 9 November.  The Club had a market stall mostly comprising books thanks to Margaret Bourke and her team and to Carol Dunnet, Dawn Schneider and Maureen Hickman for providing plants for sale.  Dr Haisong Wang of the Capital Health Centre of Traditional Chinese Medicine provided the marque.
 
Tip for the Week
When driving your car you can eliminate that blind spot behind your right shoulder by turning your side mirror further out. After all you don’t really need to be able to see the side of your car but do you need to be able to see cars overtaking right beside you.
