Friday-Sunday 4, 5 and 6 April – the Woden Seniors Big Book Fair

Time flies when you’re having fun

I heard someone say today that we are already one eighth of the way through 2025.  Crikey!!

.

Do you know these people?

Thanks to the generosity of Canberrans and the even wider community, the Club receives a continuous stream of donations of books for us to sell at the Book Fair.  Quite obviously some of these have been part of a family’s downsizing process. This week the hard-working book processing team found, in one such box, a wedding album and many other obviously family photos.

.

It’s fairly certain that these were inadvertently put in a box with other books.  If you know or know of the people in the pictures, please let Polly know so that we can offer to return them.

Book Fair Donations

Whilst on the matter of donations for the Book Fair, we will close off receipt of donations on FRIDAY 14TH MARCH.   As you can imagine, the task of preparing for a massive effort over the three days of the Fair is a big one.  We need our volunteers to have the time and energy for those preparations without also trying to keep up with the cleaning, sorting and storing of new donations.

.

If you have been planning to bring in any clean, resaleable books, comics, CDs, DVDs, audio books, jigsaws, and games we’ll be delighted to receive them up until Friday 14 March!

Did you ever wonder…….

.

How come abbreviated is such a long word?

If it’s zero degrees outside today and it’s supposed to be twice as cold tomorrow, how cold is it going to be?

Why do you press twice as hard on a remote control device when you know the battery is dead?

Why are they called buildings when they are already finished? Shouldn’t they be called builts?

Why does sour cream have an expiry date?

The light went out, but where to?

Why do banks charge you an “insufficient funds” fee on money they already know you don’t have?

Does the reverse side have a reverse side?

Why is the alphabet in that order?

If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to see it, do the other trees make fun of it?

Why is a carrot more orange than an orange?

If vegetarians eat vegetables, what do humanitarians eat?

Why is it that when a door is open it’s ajar, but when a jar is open it’s not adoor?

Tell a man that there are 400 billion stars and he’ll believe you;  tell him the bench has wet paint and he has to touch it.

Why is lemon juice mostly artificial ingredients but dishwashing liquid contains real lemons?

How much deeper would the ocean be if sponges didn’t grow in it?

Why do we wash bath towels?  Aren’t we clean when we use them?

Why do we put suits in a garment bag and garments in a suitcase?

Why doesn’t the glue stick to the inside of the bottle?

Why doesn’t Tarzan have a beard?

Isn’t the best way to save face to keep the lower part shut?

War doesn’t determine who’s right, just who’s left.
