Book Fair donations closing off soon
Donations of good quality books and other items are rolling in and keeping the Book Fair team very busy.
If you are thinking of donating some items, please hurry up! We will not be accepting donations for this year’s Book Fair after Friday 15 March 2024.
We will re-open for donations again on 1 May 2024.
Book Group idea
We now have left only seven brand new copies of ‘The Happiness Jar’ by Canberra based author Samantha Tidy. This book was the winner of ACT Writing and Publishing Award in 2014. If your book group is looking for an idea for the next book to discuss why not suggest it. Copies are $2.50 each and available from Polly.
PLEASE HELP TO KEEP THE CLUB SAFE AND CLEAN
You may have spotted a couple of new signs at the Club – as below!
For safety reasons it is vital that the verandah doors opening out into the carpark are kept clear of chairs and other obstacles.
For health reasons it would be really appreciated if members do not leave unwashed cups, plates and cutlery on the sinks in the kitchen, Anne Murray room and Hall 2. The washing up fairy will thank you!!

SCAM WARNINGS
The news media are never shy about reminding us that phone and computer scams are more and more commonplace, and that seniors are the most vulnerable group. Do remember –if you feel that you aren’t sure of what you are doing in this space, COTA ACT offers individual one-on-one training sessions through its GET IT program where senior Canberrans can come and ask questions in a relaxed way and learn about how to get online and become confident with using technology. Their offices are at the Hughes Community Centre, 2 Wisdom Street, Hughes, 6282 3777 or email contact@cotaact.org.au.

Thanks Cindy for today’s postscript:
Who claims that Australian public servants are not creative and/or do not have a sense of humour?
“Crocodiles and other natural predators are not authorized under Australian
Law to conduct Fisheries Enforcement Operations, but this doesn’t stop them
from taking matters into their own teeth.”
This quotation came from an ABC Report on the Australian Border Force using threat of crocodile attacks to deter illegal fishers from the Kimberley.
