Melbourne Cup

It’s that time of year!

Our Melbourne Cup Party will be held as usual on Tuesday 1st November 2016, commencing at 1.30 pm.

Members and friends are invited to attend the Melbourne Cup afternoon. We will provide some drinks, please bring some food to share. We will have a sweep or two of course.

Learn to Dance

Social dance lessons are available at the Club on Tuesdays from 2pm to 3:30pm in Hall 2 with Ian and Carla. The lessons cover ballroom (foxtrot, waltz, quickstep), Latin (rumba, cha-cha, jive). They are suitable for beginners up to intermediate. No partners required and there is no charge other than the normal Club activity fee. All welcome.

New Vogue Dancing is available in Hall 1 on Tuesdays from 1pm to 3.30pm, if you enjoy listening to pleasant music while exercising why not join them. Tuition is available from 11am to 1pm, it is not just for beginners, it is a shared time for learning, revising and rehearsing dances.

Tuesday Bridge

Tuesday Bridge recommenced on 6 September from 10am – 12.45pm. New players are welcome!

Alzheimer’s Australia ACT

Alzheimer’s Australia ACT will host a Ceremony that acknowledges and pays respect to those that have died of dementia, those living with dementia, their family, friends, supporters, volunteer, health and community care professional, researchers and advocates.

There will be representatives invited to read a reflection and there will be a candle lighting ceremony to honour those affected by dementia and celebrate their memories.

You are invited to attend this special event.

Spiral program

Spiral is a group of senior citizens (60+ to 90+) which meets at the St. James Uniting Church in Curtin each Thursday from 10.00 am till midday.

October has arrived but Winter is still with us! Not too many more for the year. Not many gaps in the program.

October 13 Rachael Duncan – opera singer, mother, business owner

Rachael’s story will take you around the world. Growing up in various places then studying Music in Brisbane she moved to London in 1998. She had five years in Germany before returning to Canberra. Now the mother of two and partner in a business she still performs regularly.

October 27 Robert Macklin

Robert is a prolific author, film-maker and journalist. He will talk about his latest book, the biography of Hamilton Hume, which is already in its fifth print run. His works cover an extremely wide range of subjects. Books available for purchase and signing.

November 3 The Heartbeats

Last chance to catch this always entertaining, popular group performing your favourite songs.

November 10 Latham Primary School Choir

How many years does it take before we can call this a tradition? We welcome back these talented kids. It’s understandable that we enjoy the innocence of these young people but it seems that they enjoy spending time with us. Long may it continue.

Alice Bedlington is currently the Manager of Donor Relations for the Cancer Council of the ACT but in an earlier life she was an antiques dealer. I hope the title of Alice’s talk has intrigued you enough to come along and hear the answer. Quite a shocking story it is.
