BIG Book Fair – time to get serious!!

The BIG Book Fair is only five weeks away so it is time to get serious about distributing posters and bookmarks and telling your friends and families.

  • Polly has hundreds of posters for distribution so pick up some soon and put them on poster silos (the big concrete structure outside at many shopping centres), notice boards or in the windows of friendly shop keepers.
  • Take some bookmarks to hand out to members of groups you attend, or to leave for people to pick up in prominent places, or put in letterboxes.

Watch this space in the next Fortnightly News for details about the ways you can help, before, during and at the end of the Book Fair. We will need a range of volunteers to empty the container and move boxes, to help in the kitchen, to work on the front desk, to keep the book tables in order, to work on the checkout, and to pack up at the end.

Many thanks to those club members that clean up after using cups and glasses in the three rooms. Thanks too to those members who take tea towels and other things home to wash. This willingness to clean up after each group means the club stays clean and welcoming to all.

Survey – healthy ageing

Nutrition Australia ACT is seeking input to develop a new healthy ageing program. They are conducting an anonymous survey of people over 45 to inform this program. Please help by completing a survey. Hard copies of the survey, and the box to put it in, are in the foyer or you can complete it on line by going to the following link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Rechargeyourhealth. Thanks to those who have already completed one – it only takes a few minutes.

Using iCloud and iDrive on an iPad Workshop

A workshop on using iCloud and iDrive on an iPad will be held on Thursday 24 May 2018 from 1.30 pm to 3.30 pm.

iCloud is a free cloud-based storage service which can be used to synchronize data between your other devices (iPads, iPhones, and computers). It can also be used to share information with others and to manage your photo library. iCloud Drive is used to access and manage the files on iCloud from your iPad.

This workshop is intended to provide a better understanding of using iCloud and iDrive with an iPad. It will cover setting up an iCloud account, configuring iCloud on an iPad; connecting to iCloud; main functions and core synchronization services provided by iCloud; using iCloud to store, share and synchronize data and manage the iCloud Photo Library; and using iCloud Drive with the iPad Files app.

Important Note: This workshop is for advanced iPad users who have a need to store documents and other data at an external (cloud) location and/or synchronize their data with other devices and/or share data with other people. Members who do not have these needs will not benefit from this course.

To enroll send an email to admin@wodenseniors.org.au with an expression of interest indicating the purposes for which you use or intend using iCloud.

The former Computer Room will be used for much needed storage.

Food Safety Workshop

The Club has been lucky enough to receive a grant from the ACT government to enable us to offer a workshop on food safety.

In recent years the requirements for organisations offering and serving food have changed considerably and it is important that those involved in assisting with food preparation and serving are up to date with the requirements.

Nutrition Australia (ACT) will be giving us an informative and interactive two-hour session on food safety on Friday 23 March from 1.30 pm to 3.30 pm in the Anne Murray Room.

While this workshop is open to any member, we hope members who are keen to help with the café at the Book Fair and catering for other Club events are able to come. There will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions.

Please let Polly know if you would like to attend. There is no limit on the number of participants.

The more the merrier!
